TESSO Aims

Our aim is to bring relevant and agreed national occupational standards and qualifications into the industry.  Standards that will be of use to you in many facets of your business.  Qualifications that are meaningful both for the employer and the employee.

We were formed in October 1992 from an establishment committee comprising members from Telecom, Clear, Exicom, CIT, TUANZ in response to the Government's Industry Training Legislation.  We were recognised by  ETSA (the Education & Training Support  Agency) and NZQA as the ITO for the telecommunications industry.

In July 1996 to reduce and avoid increasing administration costs we merged with the Electrotechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) relinquishing our  ITO status.   We are now the Telecommunications Industry Advisory Group within the ETITO and as such we:

- Represent the telecommunications industry to the ETITO Board of management

- Consult and represent the industry about standards, training needs and qualification design and reviews

- Identify industry members with the expertise required to assist the ETITO with specific requirements eg. assessment, moderation, technical analysis for unit standards, assessment guides, design of qualifications

- Proactively disseminate information from the ETITO and collect feedback.

Therefore TESSO wishes to actively encourage full representation of the industry when evolving the occupational standards and qualifications in conjunction with ETITO. This will enable the whole needs of the industry to be met.
