A. C. (Chris) JONES M.IPENZ, NZCE - Executive Officer
Chris commenced work with the New Zealand Post Office as a temporary mechanician in August 1954, became a Member of the NZ Institution of Engineers in 1979 and rose to the position of Telecom’s General Manager Network Planning and Development.
Chris’ prior responsibility before promotion to the General Manager role was as Project Manager for the first three years of the TASMAN 2 Auckland to Sydney optical fibre submarine cable project. This project required an extensive range of budgetary, project management, business and new technology investigation experience (TASMAN 2 at 140 Mbs was then state of the art).
Chris retired from Telecom in April 1993 to accept the establishment position of Executive Officer with the Telecommunications Industry Training Organisation (TESSO). In July 1996 TESSO successfully merged with the Electrotechnology ITO to avoid the need to establish significant apprenticeship administration resources in TESSO, the first ITO to merge by choice.
Chris remains the TESSO Executive Officer and TESSO remains the recognised telecommunications industry “advisory group” to the ETITO and NZQA.

David James Cox (Dave) altDave joined the telecommunication industry in 1976 as a telephone exchange technician for the NZ Post Office. Dave went on to become a software and hardware specialist for the NEAX switching systems, then moved in to fulltime training for Telecom New Zealand in 1987 (Dave figured he could fix more faults this way). From there Dave spent 5 years bouncing around the world and NZ for Telecom NZ and NEC Japan teaching telecommunications. In 1992 Dave was charged with the task of the re-development of technical training from being content focused to outcome (competency) focused. The move to training in 1987 has seen Dave start to realize his lifelong passion...to help people grow and to achieve their goals. Changes within the telecommunications training industry in 1996, caused Dave to set up the PTE & Associates Ltd (CITT) to attempt to keep training alive and well for the industry. Today Dave, as Managing Director of DJC (now partly owned by Downer EDi), is still in love with training people and seeing them grow and develop into skilled and confident people...who in turn help their organisations competently deliver their telecommunication services to the New Zealand public.
